Whoever said running is easy? Road relay is one of the toughest and tedious sports out there. The road relayers are required to have strong determination, endurance, and explosiveness to finish a 1.8km run. Many may think that it is just running, but in fact, it is extremely demanding on the runners to be on the ball and consistent in their training.

Leading the male team this year is Dylan. Dylan is an experienced cross-country runner and has been running since his secondary school days. He only started Road Relay last year in Eusoff. Aside from being in Road Relay, he is also part of the Eusoff Track team. As a motivated and competitive runner, he took part in the National School’s Track and Cross Country. Being a seasoned runner, he was awarded top 3 medals four times for track and came in top 20 five times for cross country.

Alongside with Dylan, we have Isabelle leading the female team. Isabelle is also a cross-country runner who only started Road Relay last year in Eusoff. She is a dedicated and competent runner who took part in various competitions and/or events such as IHG and had competed in National Schools during her secondary school and junior college days.

Due to the similar nature between road relay and cross-country, both decided to join Road Relay to continue their running journeys. Even though they are relatively new to road relay, while discussing it they spoke about running with burning passion and interests. When asked about the goals for the team, Dylan replied, “Cohesive and bonded team” while Isabelle wished for the team to remain healthy and exercise both mental and physical discipline.

Aside from sharing about themselves and their personal achievements, they even gave a shout out to their Team Manager, Ke Huan who has been going extra miles to ensure the team’s welfare. The captains also spoke highly of their team saying that although Road Relay is all about running, running, and running, both teams are still extremely bonded just like a family. Seniors are extremely welcoming, and this has helped the freshies to feel comfortable in the team. Everyone is supportive of one another and would cheer each other on. For instance, whenever the male or female team is running, they would clap to motivate each other to keep running. All these small actions are definitely heartwarming and would keep the team going on as one!

Dylan and Isabelle also shared to look out for Violet, Ning Xuan, Isaac, Luke, Cheryl Lee and Jovanna during IHG! Thus, remember to open your eyes and watch their stellar running performance!

“Slow progress is better than no progress” – Isabelle

“Train hard, train smart. Most importantly, train with your heart” – Dylan

Eusoff Road Relayers are certainly a fun bunch of humans who have formed a supportive and tight-knit family among themselves. They train hard and play hard! It is all about competing against the little voice inside their heads, telling them to stop running. However, they constantly push themselves to go beyond their limits and mental boundaries. You think it is easy to run up the Central Library slope? Stay tuned to more exciting updates during IHG!
