Overall score: Eusoff 2 - 1 Temasek

The female touch rugby team kicked off the season opener with a WIN!!! It was truly an amazing showcase of grit and determination. It was not just raining, it was POURING cats and dogs out there. And despite being possibly distracted by the Temasek girls in white (because their shirts became see-through in the rain)*, and water splashing everywhere with every move they made, the girls still pressed on. It was definitely not an easy feat as it was very cold and even though some felt like they were doing everything to run fast, they felt like they were in the same spot. It was tiring to even watch them play.

I must say, Claudia really led the team with grace. She was calm, composed, and man those fingers. I mean, she just had to indicate the play or raise her hand and the team followed her diligently.

Hui Lin trying her absolute best to run away just like I do with my problems🤭

The seniors were in a league of their own. I think names like Elis, Amber, Hui Lin and Stacia are soon to become Eusoff household names.

Despite there being many changes to the format of the game, the players stayed adaptable and encouraged each other. Their win is not the only thing that was won today, they also won my heart with their team spirit, very cute. It even made Thea Ee (a bashie and SMC Logs top chai) say: “Eh Rishika, next year want to join Trug with me?” And I almost agreed to do it even though I know I would hate throwing balls backwards. This is a testament to how inspiring their play on the field was.

A spectacular save also means free water slides? (Albeit not very clean and a possibility of scraped knees)

We also cannot forget the freshies. Man, what beasts they were. Names like Nikki, Humaira, and Theng Xuan are definitely going to be names to remember this upcoming season. Keep an eye out for these girls because they are fearless!

Through a tight first half, the team managed to pull through and emerged with a final score of 2 - 1. I know that the team has so much more to offer and are only going to improve throughout the season. Stay tuned and make sure to catch the touch rugby matches to see these queens slay on the field.

*opinions are solely of the writer’s, not of SMC’s at all.
