Looking into the potential superstars of Eusoff’s Softball Team, we bring your attention to Kohki Higashitani, a softball player with exceptional raw talent and a skillset that brings promise to Softball’s achievements.
Kohki started playing Softball when he was 7 years old. When asked why he decided to pick it up, he said it was his dad who urged him to take it up and found that he had a natural talent for the game. To this day, he plays with a burning passion in his heart, and still loves the game. One memorable moment that he carries throughout his softball career was the taste of having scored his first ever homerun in an official game. It was an exhilarating sensation, and he never wants to stop feeling it every time he’s called to the playing field.
However, Softball is more than just testing your physical capabilities, it is also mentally challenging as well. To him, Softball has taught him the importance of perseverance. As it is a very technical and difficult game, it takes time and effort to master the fundamentals. Through Softball, he’s learnt to embrace failure and turn setbacks into opportunities, which has helped in other aspects of his life as well.
Softball is also about communication and teamwork. As the saying goes, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. In order for a team to be effective, communication is key. By talking to each other during the game, you help develop the players around you and they in turn, develop you.
Despite having a natural gift for the sport, Kohki does recognise the importance of training and honing his craft. He imparts this particular piece of wisdom - that “the expert in anything was once a beginner”, believing that he can always be better than who he was when he first picked up the sport. We wish him all the best in the upcoming IHG as well as the many competitions he faces as he continues to train and grind harder than ever before!
